The life and misfortunes of a group of young men in the suburbs of Rome and, in particular, of Vittorio, with the knick-name of the “Accattone”, the beggar. For his debut as a film director, Pasolini selects as his main characters the protagonists of his previous novels entitled “Ragazzi di vita” and “Una vita violenta”. He tries to depict a despicable and desperate generation of men caught in their everyday life, within an environment which has not been reached by modern civilization, but which is however worthy of respect and capable of touching. Shot with refined simplicity, with the photography by Tonino Delli Colli, the movie is starred by non professional actors, caught in real time. Musical counterpoint by J. S. Bach. The director assistant is Bernardo Bertolucci. Titling in the Pasolini style: black letters on white. (www.centraldobrasil.it)
