The comic adventures of four (and then five) friends from Florence, who do not ever take anything seriously in life. But reality, which is not always happy, can not be escaped: one of them dies. The movie should have been shot by Pietro Germi (in the titles, we read “a film by Pietro Germi” and “directed by Mario Monicelli”) who died a year before and entrusted the script to Monicelli. This was certainly a beautiful present! The movie is sarcastic, exuberant and irreverent; it satirizes and makes fun of modern life, which is chaotic and obsessive; it represents an hymn to the freedom of mankind. In one word, it is a cult movie. The selection of the actors has been done very well and many scenes have become almost historic, such as the very comic scene of the slaps, although they sometimes risk to become boring.  (www.centraldocinema.it)
