Inspired by a comedy by Diego Fabbri, the movie describes the mishaps of a young man, Alberto, who does not refrain from showing his abilities as a libertine and philanderer, though he is married. Yet it soon becomes clear that he is an ingenuous and frivolous puppet, whose success with women is often due to the fate. Backed by good luck, he succeeds in becoming the lover of a French model and friend of an American pilot’s young wife. He makes every effort to clumsily keep his love affairs secret to his wife. Once his lies are uncovered, he proposes to the three women to maintain a living in four, with catastrophic results.


Alberto Sordi
(Roma, 1920)

Born in Rome on 15th June 1920, company actor since 1936, as well as Italian dubber of Oliver Hardy, Sordi makes his debut in cinema when he was only 19 years old and obtains his first role as a protagonist in the film entitled "I tre aquilotti" (1942) directed by Mario Mattoli.
In the post-war period, he is very active in the variety show and on radio, where he gives birth to various characters – “il signor Coso”, “Mario Pio” and “conte Claro”. These characters give him a great popularity and allow him to star (thanks to De Sica and Zavattini) in "Mamma mia, che impressione!" (1951) directed by Roberto Savarese. The turning point of his career is when he meets Federico Fellini: the films "Lo sceicco bianco" (1952) and "I vitelloni – Spivs, the young and the passionate" (1953) present him in the role of an idle, lazy, cowardly and cunning young man, a character which is repeated until the famous Italian movie "La grande guerra" (1959) directed by Mario Monicelli.
In the following years, he gives birth to a gallery of mostly negative portraits, characterized by malice and, sometimes, the suspicion of gratification, always accompanied by an unrivalled acting mastery.

(1960) by Luigi Comencini, "Una vita difficile – A difficult life" (1961) by Dino Risi, "Mafioso" (1962) by Alberto Lattuada, "Il medico della mutua" (1968) by Luigi Zampa, "Detenuto in attesa di giudizio" (1971) by Nanni Loy, "Bello, onesto, emigrato Australia sposerebbe compaesana illibata" (1971) by Luigi Zampa, "Lo scopone scientifico" (1972) by Luigi Comencini, "Un borghese piccolo piccolo" (1977) by Mario Monicelli.
When he starts to direct himself in "Fumo di Londra" (1966), he intensifies his activity as a director, shooting movies such as "Un italiano in America" (1967), "Amore mio aiutami" (1969), "Polvere di stelle" (1973), "Finché c'è guerra c'è speranza" (1974), "Il comune senso del pudore" (1976), "Io e Caterina" (1980), "Il tassinaro" (1983), "Tutti dentro" (1984).
