Twenty coffee machines presented at the Exhibition entitled Espresso made in Italy: history, culture, design will tell the history of made-in-Italy espresso coffee machines, hosted at the Hotel Tirana International.

After Thailand, Turkey, Greece, Israel, Russia and the United Kingdom, here is another important destination abroad for Enrico Maltoni's Collection. From 7th to 21st of May, the travelling Exhibition entitled Espresso made in Italy: history, culture and design touches its 33rd destination at the prestigious venue of Hotel Tirana International.

Tirana

Organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana within the framework of the events promoted by the Delegation of the European Union, the Exhibition (sponsored by Lavazza, Rancilio and Eat a Cup) will be part of the agenda of cultural events, exhibition and concerts which are expected to see the participation of the Embassies and Cultural Institutes of the EU Countries based in Albania during the cultural kermes. The 2007 edition of the European Culture Week will be particularly important as it coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome on 25th March 1957, which represents the date of birth for the EU Community. Though preserving its different cultural and linguistic diversities, the European Cultural Week is primarily aimed to enhance the European Cultural Heritage and to widespread its value across the EU Countries.

Italy will open the European Cultural Week with a concert (promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana) by the Solisti Veneti, conducted by director Claudio Scimone, and presenting one of the most important and best-known products of made in Italy - espresso coffee.
Through the presentation of coffee machines, the Exhibition will introduce one of the most fascinating and representative aspects of a century of Italian life-style. The history of espresso coffee began with the early legendary column-shaped coffee machines, such as the Pavoni of 1905, the Snider of 1920 (in perfect Art Nouveau Style), and touching other models, such as the Rancilio Preziosa model of 1930 and the model “Z8" of 1971 (designed by Marco Zanuso), the San Marco of 1952, also known as “Lollobrigida” for its soft rounded shapes, and the Pavoni Concorso model of 1956 (designed by Bruno Munari and Enzo Mari). The visit pathway will finally arrive at present day with the coffee machine model Rancilio Classe 10 and the cutting-edge B.L.U.E. LB 1000 (Best Lavazza Ultimate Espresso) designed by Pininfarina, representing the ultimate step in the technological evolution of espresso coffee machines.
Each coffee machine will come together with the vintage Lavazza set of coffee cups.

For over 20 years, Mr. Maltoni has realized accurate historical, philological and documental investigations, acquiring a remarkable expertise in the art of coffee machine restoration, which has allowed him to collect and catalogue over 3,500 documents. Photographic material, patents, letters, catalogues, vintage posters are part of the collector's heritage, which can also be explored by visiting the Collection official website: www.espressomadeinitaly.com.
By walking among these steel design masterpieces, collocated on their illuminated base, and by watching the advertising posters, visitors will experience a unique event, where the yelling, the bustle and the coming and going typical of old Cafés and the life of Italian bars are brought back to the mind.
